View Full Version : XP Registry problem

I did a dumb thing. Not long after I got my computer
(warranty-free, mind you), the DVD-ROM and CD-RW stopped
responding. They would open and power would go to them,
but Windows would read neither of them. So, I decided to
see how to fix this via editing the registry. I followed
the instructions I was given on the Microsoft website, but
this only worsened my problem. Now I have no keyboard or
mouse functionality, and the CD and DVD drives still don't
work. Is there anything I can do short of paying someone
upwards of $70 an hour to fix it for me?

Yes, you did a dumb thing!! Sounds like you need to reinstall XP, or at
least a "repair install" from your XP installation disk.

Did you backup the registry or make note of what you changed. Are the mouse
and keyboard USB connected?
