View Full Version : System Restore Not Successful

I have a HP Pavilion 760N 1.8 Ghz with the Windows XP
Home Edition Version 5.1.2600 Build 2600 with
BIOS/Date: Award Software, Inc. 3.02, 11/22/01
I have Total Physical Memory 512.00 MB with Available
Physical Memory of 228.97 MB and approximately 100GB of
Hard Drive space available on my system.
Two weeks ago I tried to do a "System Restore" and got an
error message "Restore Unsuccessful". I tried to Restore
another "Restore CheckPoint" and got the same error
message. I also noticed that since 2/27/03 there had not
been any "Restore CheckPoints" created by the Operating
System and the last "Restore CheckPoint" that had been
created was the one I created 3/7/03.
I'm sure someone has had the same problem with the
Windows XP Home Edition Operating System!
What did you do to correct the problem?
Thanks,
PEB

If you recently applied Service Pack 1 or Service Pack 1a, all
Restore Points associated with the earlier Windows XP will be
removed to avoid mismatched files. To return to a point prior to
application of Service Pack 1 or 1a required you to make certain
choice prior to the installation. You had to choose to archive the
older files which permitted the uninstallation of the service pack.
The installation process might have turned off the System Restore
function which you would have to re-enable after successful
application of the service pack.

Earl,
Thanks for the info!
I had previously checked to make sure "System Restore"
had not been turned off and jus checked it again and it
is not turned off.
I have not installed many of the fixes and it has been 6
to 8 months since any fix has been installed!
I have never installed SP1 or SP1A.
I have the "Automatic Update" configured to "Notify me
before downloading any Updates and notify me again before
installing any Updates." So I know nothing has been
installed if I didn't authorize it.
