Windows XP gets slow

Clear DayIt seems that at times Windows XP gets really slow. It takes several seconds to open a program or even open a folder. This happens to me after using programs like Cool Edit to process aukio files, or Real Producer to produce rm files.

A friend of mine seems to be running into a similar problem after loading Netscape 7.0. His machine, a Vio Notebook(Sony), "hangs up" as well as getting really slugish. It seems that it is not noly my computer.

Wonder if anyone has a way to rev up the computers to normal again

have you recently installed the xp patch 811493 ?
This patch will slow down your system significantly.
If so, uninstall via the control panel.

You May Experience Performance Issues After You Install the 811493 (MS03-013) Package on Your Windows XP SP1-Based Computer
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;819634

The original 811493 has been replaced with a revised version. On May 28, 2003, Microsoft released a revised version of the 811493 security update for Windows XP SP1 to address this problem. Remove the old one and replace with the new one. You can remove through Add / Remove Programs -Start, Control Panel.
