View Full Version : Possible to reinstall Windows XP?

I have a habit of reformatting hard drives every now and
then, just to clear all the clutter that builds up. I
upgraded to Windows XP a few months ago, and I'd like to
clear my hard drive now. But, I'm not sure how tight the
security is for XP. If I run my system's restore disk
(it's a Compaq Presario), I believe it will clear off XP
and put Windows 98 back in. Is this the case?

If so, will it be possible for me to reinstall Windows XP
to this computer, or is Windows XP an one-time install?
I'd hate to restore the system and find out I have to shell
out another $100 for a new copy of Windows XP.

If there's a better option than what I'm suggesting here,
please enlighten me. I've already looked into the System
Restore utility, but I actually want to get rid of
everything on my hard drive, not save some of it. Thanks.

Install it as many times as you want till the end of time. If it's an =
upgrade you'll have to install 98 first then upgrade as you don't have a =
98 disk only a compaq disk. If you had a 98 disk you could install XP =
and just give it the 98 CD to prove you own 98 (it just looks at it).
