Can anybody explain what this is? Everytime i load my
Windows task manager it shows me that the system idle
process is consuming about 95% of my system's cpu
resources and it's making my system go really slow.
Please help me out, Please!!!!!

It's the amount of time windows is doing nothing, waiting for something =
to do. A low SIP number slows down computers not a high one.

Carlos;
System Idle is exactly what it sounds like.
It is the % of processing power the computer has doing nothing,
waiting for something to do.
If you have problems, the source is elsewhere.
Try these:
Run an updated virus scan.
Run Disk Cleanup checking all boxes except "Compress old files"
Run Defrag.
If you have file sharing software such as Kazaa, disable it.
Check this link:

Run Ad-Aware (free version) or Spybot to check for spyware:
http://www.lavasoft.de/ (Update if you already have it)
Or
http://spybot.eon.net.au/ (Update if you already have it)

Starting last week my "system" process started taking
over 40% of CPU. I have installed no new software except
last weeks MS XP Updates. I run defrag once a week, run
Norton AV every night, adaware once a week.
Any idea how to isolate this CPU hog? I cannot figure out
what the process (which is owned by "system" is doing).
A reboot makes it calm down for awhile, but it does come
back and slows down every thing else.

I have the same thing happening on a friend's ME computer - the system
process (second on the list) will run at 60% with no applications opened and
the system idle is at about 5% (high - but OK) and the computer will tend to
lock-up with time- system process that is running way too high and even
shutting down running apps one at a time does not seem to help. Removed and
replaced memory with no improvement. I know this is XP - not ME group but
the problem seems the same.

This is essentially what's happening to me as well. Before it's
repeated, I have:
- eliminated all startup programs (msconfig is a pretty good tool!)
- done virus and adware/spyware scans - none found
- eliminated all non-essential services from startup
- tried creating a new user to see if it's user related (it's not)
- defragged the disk
- checked the disk - I did find a minor error, corrected, no joy
Lately I've taken to tracking this with the task mgr - one thing I see
when I'm in the 'good' state is that the System process has 70 or 71
threads, and has 84 or more in the 'bad' (i.e. using most of the cpu) state.
Any more diagnostic ideas or ideas of what the system process thread
count means, if anything?
thanks,
George
