Have customer computer that I just finished removing 398 spyware objects and
18 viruses. Went to install SP2 from CD. After all files are extracted I get
an error message that it can't find a requested file and that setup is
halted. Any idea what files are requested to start installation process. It's
possible that when removing viruses a sytem file may have been removed. The
computer is a Sony Vaio and only has a recovery disk.

Check for damaged/missing system files:
Start/Run
Type "sfc /scannow" ENTER
Follow prompts and have Windows XP CD available.

Follow the Service Pack Installation Checklist to install SP-2:

After I type "sfc /scannow" I get message box that pops up with progress bar
says that it is going to check for all protected Windows files. It stays up
for about a minute then closes. Nothing further happens. Any more sugestions?

Didn't want to do a system restore and reinstall all viruses and spyware.
Otherwise system operates much better than before spyware and virus removal.
