When I launch Windows Update from Start, MSN, or Microsoft
Home Page or Microsoft Support Home page, it tells me no
updates are available. Yet when I launch Windows Update
from the Microsoft Support Site, on Windows XP FAQ page,
it tells me updates are available. Howcome?

I am running Windows XP Home, I am using AOL to connect,
but always launch internet explorer 6.0 to perform the
Windows Update. The target for Windows Update (under
properties) is %SystemRoot%\System32\wupdmgr.exe

Windows update from Start worked from when I got this
machine in May last year until January this year. I
ordered and installed Service Pack One in January from the
CD I ordered from Microsoft.

Even though I have now downloaded all critical and most
other updates I am still getting the same result. When I
launch Windows Update from Start, MSN or MS Home page, it
tells me none are available. Yet I can go to Microsoft
Support, Windows XP FAQ page, launch Windows Update from
there and it tells me that the updates available.

I did a search in Microsoft Knowledge Base and found
nothing on point - I downloaded and installed the
Microsoft iuctl program referred to in another post but it
did not fix the problem.
Any help getting Windows Update to work would be most
appreciated
Thank you
Ed
