It is probably patch 811493. I had the same problem,
reformatting solved nothing, as the patch reinstalled.
When I removed this patch from Control Panel-add/remove
programs everything was back to normal.
By the way, the computer seemed frozen when removing it,
just wait. It may take SEVERAL minutes.
