"start-up manager"

hi,im using a laptop running windows xp home.I wish to be
able to manage which programmes start up when i turn on
laptop,and which ones run in the background when im using
laptop.I would like to know if anyone knows of a website
i can find out exactly what all the programmes are in
my "start up manager" programme.(im a little confused by
all the different file names and i dont want to switch
off anything i may need)....thanks for your help in
