Hi, I am having a big problem on my hard disk space. I am
running on Windows XP Pro, I found out that the
folder "Temporary Internet Files" under my account is
taking a real large space (around 600MB). I have tried to
clean it, however, although it is nearly empty now, with
only some cookies left, but in the property, there is
still a lot of folders and files in it. I could not view
the files inside even if I turn off the hide hidden files
mode. Anyway, after trying many ways to find out what is
hidden inside, I found out that the folder
named "Content.IE5" is hidden in it. And it takes almost
600MB of space, the weird thing is, there are some movie
files which I viewed a long time ago, and they are big. I
tried to delete the biggest one, but the result is that a
window keep telling me that the file is in use. I do not
think there is any program using it. Anyway, I need to
know how can I save up my space, is it safe to delete the
whole folder? It is really troubling me, I am hoping to
hear a nice answer, thanks. By the way, can anyone tell
me what is Content.IE5 for?

If you are using IE, right its icon, select properties, general tab, delete
files, check "Delete off-line content", OK . That _should_ get rid of most
of the stuff in ContentIE5
(If not exatly right I'm writing this from memory and checking against IE6
on W98)

The easiest way to clean out Content.IE5 (and to clear your
history in the index.dat file!)--in W2K and I assume in XP--is to
log on as another user. If you've installed IE6 you suddenly see
a totally hidden folder in Content.IE5 that is keeping yet
_another_ history on where you've been. The folder is now no
longer in use and you can simply delete it--it will recreate
itself. You can also delete the index.dat file in your cookies
folder, because it too keeps a history of every cookie ever set.
You may have to make your new user an Administrator to access
this folder.
