If you bought a computer with Windows XP already installed, your
source of help is the manufacturer of the computer. Microsoft only
provides support to users who purchased Windows XP directly from
Microsoft or from a retailer in a retail box. Even then free
support is not forever. You have to pay for support after the first
two incidents. After that it cost $35.00 per incident. You would
not want to waste your two free calls on trivial things.

Perhaps some files are missing from your installation. Run "sfc
/scannow" from the Run line with your Windows XP CD in the drive to
restore missing files. Rather than bashing Microsoft, you should be
asking intelligently for help in one of these newsgroups which is
provided by the evil Microsoft free of charge.

Did you post a previous message regarding this problem? I cannot find it
but that is probably not essential.

Why do you have to reinstall just to get the System Information utility to
run? What other symptoms or problems are you experiencing.

MSINFO32 is not a critical Windows component and I for one would not
consider reinstalling if that were the only problem I was encountering.

Try deleting the MSINFO32.EXE file and then extracting a replacement for
it using SFC /SCANNOW from a command prompt window.

Also take a look at AIDA32 from
http://www.aida32.hu/aida-download.php?bit=32

It has a lot of the same information as the System Information utility
plus a fair bit extra. It may be a viable alternative for your
requirements.

Good luck
