Task Bar ... HELP!

Running Windows XP for months just fine. Suddenly I don't
have any green START button on my taskbar. Also, taskbar
is all grey except for the icon tray.

Consequently, cannot get to the RUN command to do any
significant troubleshooting.

Where do I begin, O Great One!!??

hold down windows key and press 'r' to open run command
