FOr others information.
I downloaded update 811493. Immediately, all file
operations on my computer were seriously degraded. Right
clicking on a filename froze the compuer or took 5
minutes to get the menu. The same was true with many
start menu items.
811493 has an uninstall. I uninstalled it, the problems
disappeared. I reinstalled it, the problems came back. I
uninstalled it again, no problems.
If you have problems, I hope this will help you.

Get rid of your virus programs and you won't have this problem.

Horrible, horrible advice.
MS knows there is a problem with this update, MS is working on identifying
it and fixing it.
Uninstall the update if your having problems, keep your AV program intact.

Gotta love those anonymous posters...

Virus programs cause so much more problems than they cure. Just read the
newsgroups. Case in point is 811493. MS, and I am not a fan of theirs,
provides updates to prevent people from attacking PC's. If you just use
common sense and not open attachments from people you don't know you cannot
get a virus. Not bragging but, I've never had one. Semantic and others put
the fear of viruses in people to sell their products.
Another idiotic thing is the comment 'If it ain't broke don't fix it'.
People who make that statement never worked as a programmer. Can't you make
it better? Install all updates from MS so that a few years from now when you
want to install X you don't scratch your head and wonder why it doesn't
work.
