hello,

i came across this article and was wondering if this auto update applies to
all computers with xp or just to computers that have the "work arounds"
<whatever they are> installed?
http://www.techweb.com/wire/security/60402124

thank you.

Hi,

Its for all XP systems, just stating the deadline, once it comes when you
try to do a XP update, you will have to install it to get the other updates,
if I understand it correctly. If not, others will be quick to correct me.

No, just the computers that blocked the download. The block will then be
removed as it was time warranted.

be partially cloudy, so I`m guessing rain again.

It applies to all computers running XP. If you log on to the windows
update site after this date you will be offered the upgrade. If you are set
to auto-download the upgrades, it will be downloaded and installed. Note
that this is not the same as terminating support for people who choose to
stick at SP1 - see:

It is NOT for all computers. It is ONLY for those who use auto updating or
WU. I use neither. I have SP1 and I will NOT be affected. I don't appreciate
being hounded to get this update I don't want or need. I stopped using WU
because of this. I use Baseline Analyzer and get the updates at Microsoft
download site. Now I understand the new Baseline Beta will combine Baseline
Analyzer with WU. UGH. That still won't make me do this upgrade. MS cannot
ram it down my throat thank goodness. Only a newbie who doesn't know any
better would enable auto updating.

I think you might be talking about something different. OP was asking " if
this auto update applies to all computers with xp or just to computers that
have the "work arounds". It applies to all computers that run XP.

Whether or not you like the idea, or whether or not you choose to visit the
update site or whether or not you choose to enable auto updating or whether
or not you accept the download manually doesn't alter the fact that auto
update applies to all computers running XP.

hi melelina,

i'm with you.
i have sp1 installed, only because visual studio.net required it.
i checked the requirements for the next release of visual studio.net 2005,
and i didn't see having sp2 as a requirement.

i've never heard of baseline analyzer. can you tell me something about it?
thank you.

How anyone who never goes to the Windows Update site can consider themselves
"safe" is beyond me. Updates are meant to improve the safety of your PC, by
ignoring them you are asking for trouble.
