I am running xp pro sp1 on my laptop. The windows update
service is unavailable, all the choices on that tab under
system properties, automatic updates, are grayed out. I
searched and cant find how to fix that. Any thoughts on
how to return those options is appreciated.
Thanks

Check date/time.
Follow this link:

Look for "EULA buttons grayed out/ Script Error..."
Or
"There are no updates available at this time..."

Two new updates are available. One for Internet Explorer and the
other for Outlook Express.
