I'm having trouble locating an article on how to format
my root drive and re-load xp. I'm having performance
problems (the kind you get when "certain" family members
load large programs or files and then unload them at will
performing little or no maintenance on the machine. My P4
1.7 ghz presently operates like a 386).
Can someone point me to a step-by-step how-to on wiping
and reloading an XP driven drive?
I'm not as confident about XP - I understand the
fundamentals of 98SE, incl. fdisk, partitioning and
formatting (I live in this OS realm). I plan to add
additional RAM at the same time as I format (perhaps
moving from 256 mb of rambus to 1 gb).
Thanks for helping.

The Windows XP CD is bootable and contains all the tools necessary
to partition and format your drive. Follow this procedure and allow
Windows XP to partition and format your drive:

1. Open your BIOS and set your CD Drive as the first bootable device.
2. Insert your Windows XP CD in the CD Drive and reboot your =
computer.
3. You'll see a message to boot to the CD....follow the instructions.
4. The setup menu will appear and you should elect to delete the =
existing
Windows partitions, then create a new partition, then format the =
primary
partition (preferably NTFS) and proceed to install Windows XP.

5. Windows XP Clean Install:=20
