A basic question....we added another 128 MB of RAM for a total of 320 MB to
our Pentium II. No users manual for the computer but think we installed it
alright. Upon startup we get the message: "164 memory size error". I'm
trying to find out where to go for information on the computer.....in the
mean time, I really want to know if our OS will be affected in a negative
way if there is something wrong with the memory? We have Windows XP Home Ed.
Thankyou.

That message, or one similar to it can occur on some computers when there
is a change in the quantity of installed memory. The amount of memory
currently being detected does not match with what was there the last time
the computer's BIOS setup information was updated.
The cure is simple. Go into the BIOS setup (usually by pressing the
delete key during the first stages of the power up). Click on the General
tab and make sure the correct amount of RAM is shown. Then click on the
"Save changes and Exit Setup" option. The computer will restart and the
message should be gone.
Good luck
