The instructions I was given by Windows Update.
Work around,
To work around this issue, follow these steps.
1. click start,click run,type cmd,and then click OK.
2. At the command prompt, type the following command, and
then press ENTER:

del/q"%SystemRoot%\System32\Catroot2\Edb.log

This command will force the catalog database to rebiuld
itself.
So I did exactly what the instructions said, and the
reply I keep getting is,
Parameter format not correct.
"q"C:\WINDOWS\System32\Catroot2\Edb.log".
So Im not to sure what to do but if anyone happens to see
this posting and they know what I am doing wrong could
you maby just post the answer on this newsgroup with the
heading "FIX FOR SHANE CATALOG REBIULD" because my E-Mail
is also acting funky and giving me all kinds of error
messages and Im not sure when Ill get around to resolving
that little problem. so thank you in advance.

Do it manually. Go to C:/windows/system32 and find file 'catroot2". Rename
it to something like oldroot2. Reboot. Then download and install your
updates. A new catroot2 file will be generated. This in effect gets rid of a
corrupt file (catroot2).
