desktop problem

I downloaded an upgrade for a game I have. I sent it to
my desktop where I normally send all my downloads. When I
went to my desktop to install the download I found a
gazillion icons on it. Every file I downloaded ended up
as an icon. That's not the worst part. When I try to
delete these icons they respawn. Each time I delete about
six or seven the all automatically respawn. I now have
copy number 46 on some of them. I can't delete them. I
need some serious help, please.

Was this update, by chance, a .zip file on which you inadvertently clicked
"Open" as opposed to "Save" in the File Download prompt? In which case,
have you tried rebooting (perhaps into safe mode) and deleting them?

Also, an update for what game? Just curious.
