Hi,

Not sure if this is the right place to ask at all, but I'll try my luck or
you can direct me to somewhere else, thanks.

I *coughs* downloaded *coughs* an DvD-RIP AVI file from my friend. After I
finished downloading, I watched it, but its "jumping", just like the way it
would when you view a tape with mould - but there's no black and white lines
this time, just plan "jumping". I thought it was because somewhere during
resume the compressed code mixed up, so I decided to download the full zip
file from the server straight. It was a one-time connection and I got it,
unzipped it and the problem is the same. I even went to put the files on
different drives and try. All other mpgs, avis are working perfectly with
WMP at the time I viewed the "jumping" file. I tried watching with
RealPlayer too,
but I get the same results.

I have DX 9.0a, WMP 9.00.00.3008, DivX Video 5.0.5 Free(without adware)
installed on a WinXPSP1 with possibly all the latest critical patches. Not
sure if there's anything else that matters, I will be happy to answer any
other questions.

And yes I watched the show in the theatre already, just wanna watch it again
and the VCD won't be out so soon.

Thanks in advance!

All depends where it was 'ripped' from originally - find that out and =
you might have a solution to your problem.

But initially when my friend sent me the file, he could view it. Does that
mean the file is valid?

Hi

There are many ways in which a file can become corrupted. If, as you =
say, your friend could view the file, then it could have been corrupted =
in the transfer to you. Large files - 400Mb+ - are susceptible to =
corruption during any transfer. Have you downloaded all the up to date =
codecs?

There's a freeware utility called "GSpot" which analyzes the file and
identifies the codecs required, and tells you if you have them.
Couldn't tell you where I downloaded it, but I know it's widely
available.
