I have a machine with AOL on it and the dial up connection is giving a
"network attention" message in phase 4 of the dialing......Is this a
type of message that the individual should call AOL about or is it
possibly related to SP2??

I did all the suggested editing & removing, re-assigning dial up numbers
and it did not work........

I know nothing about AOHell, and don't want to, but I'm helping a
friend....I told her I'm very good at VIRUS removal..... ;0)

Thanks for any input.......

BTW: It's AOL 9.0 Optimized (ooooooooh)

And we're supposed to be impressed or something, are we?

To quote joust-in-jest: -

"If it hurts every time you poke yourself in the eye with a sharp stick
(AOHELL), the obvious solution is to quit poking yourself in the eye with a
sharp stick (AOHELL).

If you absolutely MUST poke yourself in the eye with a sharp stick (AOHELL),
then feel free to seek assistance from the maker of the sharp stick
(AOHELL)."

Call AOLhelp is a must in most cases. They can walk you through the screens
and verify the set up needed. If you have one phone line try the following.
If you have an AOL-CD use it to install aol again, but be sure to select add
new account, that way it will not take any of the settings from the version
that casues problems. Some times a clean install is quicker than waiting on
the phone line, and is sure better, if you only have one phone line to work
with.
( one other quick way if to reset msconfig as some service may not be running)

Thank you....Turns out that they have the free 3 month deal so I
convinced her to use her original ISP account cause the HARD headed
sister was just to impatient......I'm just gonna wipe their machine as
it's been infected..... ;0)

Did you uninstall and reinstall AOL again? I have SP2 installed too but can
connect.

I had 9.0 installed but went back to 8.0 to see if disconnect problems had
to do with version but found no difference. I am dial-up and am always
getting disconnected but plan to get DSL in future.

Naaaah, I did them a favor and wiped that virus off the machine
completely........right to zeros............

Turned out to be a bad modem anyway, didn't really know until I used a
"real" dial up account set up through windows..........

Learn how to use windows's features, drop AOL.....

Just a thought....... ;0)
