I've recently reinstalled my operating system (XP Home
edition OEM) after a virus - I assume - corrupted my
hardrive. All security & critical updates are downloaded
and installed. However, when I engage the fragmenter is
runs for roughly 15 seconds then turns the computer off!!
When Windows restarts, a screen appears noting the system
has recovered from a serious error. Though I've sent the
error report to Microsoft nothing has been sent back.
Anyone have any suggestions or correction ideas? At
present my entire system is virus free according my anti
virus software.

I suspect that there is another driver that is causing problems. I would
suggest booting into safe mode and trying the defrag from there. If it
works, then that could be an indication of the above.
