Task Manager disabled by administrator

I have changed no settings but all of a sudden if I try and run the Task Manager I get a message saying 'the task manager has been disabled by your administrator'. I have only one user set up on the pc, which is the administrator. How can I get round this? Thanks in advance for any help.
