Howdy,
I recently spent $35 to MS to help resolve some troubles.
The tech told me to reboot from my XP disc and start all
over. I did this and am still having more trouble than a
mouse at a snake convention. Most programs won't run or
shut down. When I purchased XPhome I was told it was an
upgrade disc and am wondering if I need to install
Windows98 first then upgrade to XP. I have tried to boot
from the 98 disc and am not able to install 98. Is there
someway to refomat the hard drive completely and start
all over? I tried contacting MS again and was told the
case was resolved and they wanted more money. I am
disabled on a fixed income and can't afford to contribute
to Bill Gates wallet. I also noticed after reinstalling
XP that I had 6GB of space used up and the tech had told
me that when I booted from XP and did a clean install
everything would be deleted. Is XP a 6GB program?
Please help.
Thanks,Frank

The Windows XP CD is bootable and contains all the tools necessary
to partition and format your drive. Follow this procedure and allow
Windows XP to partition and format your drive:

1. Open your BIOS and set your CD Drive as the first bootable device.
2. Insert your Windows XP CD in the CD Drive and reboot your =
computer.
3. You'll see a message to boot to the CD....follow the instructions.
4. The setup menu will appear and you should elect to delete the =
existing
Windows partitions, then create a new partition, then format the =
primary
partition (preferably NTFS) and proceed to install Windows XP.

5. Windows XP Clean Install:=20

Frank;
The installed size of Windows XP is variable but no where near 6gb.

There is no need to install Windows 98 first.

Try it this way:
Disconnect all peripherals (camera, printer, scanner, etc)
Go to BIOS and set CDROM as boot device before hard drive. (probably
already set.)
Insert Windows XP CD and reboot.
At "Press any key to boot to CDROM" quickly press a key and follow the
prompts for a Clean installation:
http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/windowsxp_sg_clean.asp
You will need to insert your Windows 98 CD for a few minutes in step
4b.
Delete all partitions in step 5 if you desire to erase all data on the
hard drive.
Partitioning and formatting will be done automatically.
All data will be destroyed, back-up important data first.
