Hi,

I had my networking running satisfactorily running with my Compaq laptop
with 4 other computers. I then installed SP2 and since then the Compaq
will not connect.

I get the following error:

Mshome is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this
network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out
if you have access permissions.
The list of servers for this workgroup is not currently available.

Is anyone able to tell me what has happened in the process of installing
SP2 that has caused the network to stop working? Any fixes?

Tom

1. Trim your signature - the standard is 4 lines maximum.
2. Don't ever post your real, unmunged email address on Usenet or
messageboards. It will be harvested by spambots.
3. You've publicly posted your address and phone number where thousands
of people will see it, now and in the future (searchable in Google
Groups). This is a completely unsafe thing to do.

Items 2 and 3 above are for your own protection. I'm not trying to hurt
your feelings.

As for your problem, Service Pack 2 automatically enables the Windows
Firewall. If you are not running a third-party firewall, go to the
Windows Firewall applet in Control Panel and enable File & Printer
Sharing on the Exceptions tab. If you are using a third-party firewall
(and have properly configured it to allow your lan traffic as Trusted),
then turn the Windows Firewall off. You don't want two firewalls
running, and a third-party program will be better than the WF. All
firewalls must be properly configured to allow lan traffic as Trusted.

Thanks for all comments.

I've followed up suggestions including the recommendation to upgrade NIC
drivers (actually I saw this in another questions stream). I can't say
for certain that this was the actual fix but it worked after I did that.

Thanks again.

I'm glad you got it sorted. Thanks for taking the time to let me know.

Stay safe, now. ;-)
