Audio Drivers

All of my audio drivers are enabled, but won't start. How
do I remedy this.
history: dl'ed new sound card driver for MB. Installed,
working. Midi, Wave, voice, etc all say enabled but not
started when looking in device mgr. In control
panel/Sounds, says no audio device. Everything was working
until I updated xp from CD. Have installed all drivers I
know of for audio, with no success.
Advice Please......
