letter m appears to not work only in msword...

very strange...any ideas why this would cause system to freeze or keyboard

It actually started working again just from banging on it...it continues to
act up though and it's no longer just the letter m...so may be time for a
new keyboard?
It doesn't want to work when I first log in to XP but after banging on it
and logging in as a guest or other user it starts to work again...strange...
Any other ideas or suggestions are appreciated...
