Unable to remove Norton System works 2001 off XP

I recently purchased a firewall and norton system works
2003. The disk on system works states I must remove 2001.
I am not able to do this and also unable to remove live
update.

How to use the Norton SystemWorks cleanup utility (SymClean)=20

After running the above utility, logon "as the Administrator" and =
reinstall
Norton 2003. Afterward, run the Live Update to update Norton.
You may have to run Live Update two or three times
before all the updates to Norton are installed.
