You may have a problem related to your third-party firewall program.
Do you have ZoneAlarm installed? If you do, uninstall it.

Check your system to see if you have any unsigned drivers
that may be causing the problem.

Go to Start > Run and type: SIGVERIF , and hit enter.

You could use msconfig to examine what is set to load at=20
startup, and then work from there by seeing which of them=20
is not getting started. It sound like a program that was=20
installed but that was not upgradable.

the first thing i would do is check the following: click start>run and type
"msconfig" and hit 'enter' (you must be logged on as administrator or
equivalent account). this will bring up the 'system configuration utility'.
search for the "Load=Load=" entry in the 'system.ini', 'win.ini' and
'startup' tabs (this is unlikely to be in the services or boot.ini tabs).
once you find the entry, uncheck the box next to it in order to stop it from
loading upon system boot. you may also want to go into the 'startup' tab and
disable anything you do not wish to load on startup - this is a good idea
because the more processes (programs) that are running in the background,
the slower your system will be.
