View Full Version : Problems with upgrade

I recently upgraded from Windows ME to Windows XP. Since
then I've had nothing but problems: I cannot retrieve
any of my Word documents, I cannot HotSync my PalmPilot,
my system is extremely slow, and I consistently have new
problems logging into MSN.

I have tried to get help from Microsoft Support, but on
the phone they will answer only one question at a time,
and they have not responded to my e-mail inquiries.

Does anybody have any suggestions on how to get my system
working again?

Thanks for your help!

Sharon;
did you verify compatibility with Windows XP?
Check this link, especially #3 Upgrade Advisor:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/home/howtobuy/upgrading/default.asp

You may need to get the latest windows XP drivers for your hardware.

Also try these:
Run an updated virus scan.
Run Disk Cleanup checking all boxes except "Compress old files"
Run Defrag.
If you have file sharing software such as Kazaa, disable it.
Check this link:

Run Ad-Aware (free version) or Spybot to check for spyware:
http://www.lavasoft.de/ (Update if you already have it)
Or
http://spybot.eon.net.au/ (Update if you already have it)
