My father is having major frustration with XP Home and
connecting to the internet. If anyone could help it would
be much appreciated and major kudos to ya as I know Jack
about XP. Please read below...

I cannot check the dial up properties; this is the
problem. The "device
manager" tells me that the modem is there, it works etc.
But when I go
to set up/look at the connection properties, I cannot
access them. I
have only one option highlighted by windows for an
internet connection,
and that is broadband; it will not let me choose dial up
modem. It will
not let me set up or access a dial up modem. When I try to
look at
network connections, the window comes up blank with no
options, then
when I try to set up a modem, it tells me that I already
have a
connection!!

Is this XP Home an upgrade or full version. If it's an upgrade then I would
suggest you remove any software for the modem that is now there, take the
actual hardware (modem) out of its slot and reinstall it and restart XP.
Note, I'm only suggesting you do this if its an upgrade without a clean
install as XP doesn't always incorporate the hardware drivers of some
hardware.
