Now its saying an error ocuured while windows was
synchronizing with time.windows.com. The time sample was
rejected because: the peers stratum is less than the
host's stratum.

How do i fix this. It is affecting me in many areas?

Thanks,

Mark

It's impossible to tell his time zone since all posts to the
Microsoft web interface newsgroups use Pacific Daylight Time. If
the time zone is incorrect, Windows XP will apply the wrong
adjustment to UTC time. For example, if his time zone is set to the
default of Pacific Standard Time and he is actually in Eastern
Daylight Time, the date will be incorrect if he sets his time after
midnight by his local clock.

By the way, your clock is off by an hour based upon your headers of
Central Daylight Time. Your post shows 6:11 PM and it not that
late even in the Eastern time zone.

I posted my message at 5:30 PM Eastern Daylight Time and your
message was already there. It would have been 4:30 PM Central
Daylight Time in your area. The time 5:11 PM would not have arrived
yet. Your current post shows 9:43 PM my time. My time is actually
8:55 PM as I post this message. Central Standard Time should be two
hours behind Eastern Daylight Time, not one hour ahead.

It shows up as 9:44 PM in the listings. This would indicate a time
zone of UTC -300 which is Atlantic Daylight Time.

I guess a lot of people do not realize that you have to set the
correct time zone and the correct time. Windows XP defaults to PST
which is the time in Redmond, Washington. They are better at
keeping time than in Windows 95. I had my computer on at the time
change in 1995. At 2:00 AM the clock was set back to 1:00 AM. When
2:00 AM came again, the clock was set back again. It was like
Groundhog Day, the movie.

What a trip. Good flick.

I use a program (free) called atomic clock sync. I have it set to ping =
a clock at boot up. Beats the built in clock sync hands down.

I looked at Unknown's headers and the Greenwich clock is ahead by
one hour. I don't know how that could be unless the server to which
he is posting has the incorrect time. He is on the SBC Prodigy
network. He keeps saying that he is on Central Standard Time. No
place in the United States is on Central Standard Time at this time
of year. Indiana plays ping-pong between Eastern Standard Time and
Central Daylight Time so they do not have to change their clocks at
all.

Ii wonder what happened with the original poster. He seems to have
abandoned the thread.

That sounds like crap. NTP uses seconds elapsed since 12:00AM 1/1/1900 =
GMT as it's means of specifing time.

The time should have shown as 8:10 PM your time. The time of 9:10
PM was my time in the Eastern time zone. There has to be something
wrong with the Prodigy server to have the Greenwich time off by one
hour in the headers. It shows that your message was posted at Wed,
30 Apr 2003 16:29:50 GMT and Wed, 30 Apr 2003 11:29:50 CDT. It is

The problem is with the MS server. Many posts have complained about =
errors when syncing their clocks using time.microsoft.com. Their server =
does not adjust for daylight savings time and also looses time. =
Therefore: tock.usno.navy.mil is a much better

I could only check back as far as April 7, 2003 but the problem goes
back that far. Prodigy may have had problems when they switched
over to Daylight Saving Time the day before. The clock may have
been advanced twice although that should have been fixed at the next
time check, if they do them.

It shows as 5:53PM. Yours shows as 5:44PM. I have checked and rechecked my
settings. They are all correct.
As a test I will set my clock 30 minutes fast in the following post. Then on
the second post I will change my time zone to GMT. Gotta be the servers.

Now go to this message in your sent folder, with the message displaying =
in the preview pane press Ctrl + F3. Post the headers.

This is from your previous mail
Date: Fri, 02 May 2003 01:16:18 GMT
It should read
Date: Fri, 02 May 2003 07:16:18 - <however many hours CDT is from GMT =
(5?)>

Does it in fact read that in your sent items folder. None the less it's =
the same time (or almost non daylight saving is -6hrs so daylight saving =
will be -5, 1-6=3D-5 (eg -6+1=3D-5)

NNTP-Posting-Date: Thu, 01 May 2003 20:16:18 CDT is the line your server =
added. This is not that common a header and it's purpose is when the =
message is delayed by your newsserver and is the time it is passed on. =
But this is way off unless it 7:20PM where you are.

It's a bit hard working with times of a foreign country on the wrong =
side of the GMT cos all my experiences are in adding hours to GMT not =
subtracting.

But the above is equilevent.

I'll include my previous posts. I'm in AEST (Australian Eastern Standard =
Time) which is GMT + 10. AEDT (GMT + 11) just finished

But I'll take a wild guess and say that you are 12 hours off in your =
clock. You computer is set to AM when in fact it's PM. My display of =
your message in OE shows as 11:16AM AEST which is 8:16PM CDST. Assuming =
you did reply 2 3/4 hrs after I posted it sounds about right. Can't =
explain the hour.=20

I not sure of the NTP protocol limits but you time has to be somewhat =
close to the correct time or it won't update (the standard is filled =
with details of measuring propagation delay which makes finding =
interesting info hard). You have to be at least in the same day.
