Hotfix hangs - won't complete

I've recently attempted to install a hotfix windows
update downloaded for me. However, the installation never
finishes. It just sits there.

I am able to do other things so the machine isn't frozen
or locked up. The hotfix install simply doesn't.

To add to this, I continue to be notified by the systray
icon that there are updates waiting to be installed, but
each time I try, the above happens.

I tried booting into safe mode to do the install, but I
can't find the hotfix to install it and the systray icon
doesn't appear in safe mode.

Any help would be appreciated.
