XP/SP2 fails to shutdown

[Daniel Royer]

My computer (XP/SP2) sometimes (not always!) fails to shut down. It gets
stuck on the "Windows is shutting down" screen. A hard shutdown and reboot
is then necessary.
Any idea where to start looking?

Daniel,

If you have MSN as your email client along with MSN messenger, then Windows
XP Pro may fail to shut down if you start the shut down with the email
client open. If you close email first the shutdown is OK.

Also you could get Karen's applet which forces Windows to shut down (free
from http://www.karenware.com/)
