View Full Version : Unable to find drivers for HP OfficeJet R60 Scanner in XP Home SP2

Ivan Carey

I am using XP home SP2 and am trying to install drivers for HP OfficeJet R60
Scanner. This used to be loaded before sp2, but recently did not work so I
deinstalled it to start a fresh install but now when the New Hardware wizard
loads I cannot find the drivers anywhere on the HDD or XP Install CD. I have
read the instructions for installation on the HP website and as per their
instructions can see all directories.
How do I now install these drivers under xp sp2.

Thanks,
Ivan

Open your Control Panel and click on the "Add Hardware" icon.
The "Add Hardware Wizard" will appear.

1. Click on Next and place a dot next to "Yes, I have already connected the hardware".
2. Click Next and scroll all the way down to "Add a new hardware device".
3. Click once to highlight it and click Next.
4. Place a dot next to "Install the hardware that I manually select from a list (Advanced)".
5. Click Next and scroll down to "Printers", click once to highlight and click Next.
6. Place a dot next to "Use the following port" and click Next.
7. In the "Install Printer Software Screen", on the left side scroll down to "HP"
and click once to highlight, then on the right-side scroll down to
"HP OfficeJet R60", click on it to highlight and click Next to install the drivers.

Sorry, disregard my first post. I realized after reading the information at the HP web
site, that the peripheral you're referring to is a parallel port ancient model, which
probably functioned with Windows XP, and probably is not Windows XP SP2 compatible. It's
probably become an orphan peripheral like my earlier scanners. My suggestion if you have
USB ports: Get a Lexmark All In One, probably model X1185 or newer on sale at Wal-Mart for
between $62-$72. Aside from being very fast, quiet, and printing beautifully on many types
of media, it comes with many user friendly functions, and some VERY good software (the Fax
Tools, superior FAX software than the Windows XP FAX component, can be used stand alone
without the printer/scanner/copier, or with it. The optical character recognition
software has been 100 % error free when scanning a document into MS Word. I attribute
that to my not using fancy fonts, or fonts smaller than 12 pt.). There are many features
which make this All In One a steal at the above price, which is less expensive than the
two ink cartridges that it comes with. I'm not sure if the USB cable is included. If
not, it's about $4 at Wal-Mart. I REALLY like my Lexmark All In One.

Before upgrading to Windows XP
Before upgrading the computer to Windows XP, remove the old all-in-one
drivers from the computer. The correct drivers may not install successfully
if the drivers are not removed before upgrading the computer to Windows XP.

Thanks everyone

Yes I can and have installed the printer part.
Yes I have read the HP instructions already before this post.

Is there anyway I can reinstall this scanner or does MS sp2 dictate what
scanner I can use. I would rather not buy another all in one and have a
perfectly operating one sitting around.

Regards,
Ivan

Go to the Event Viewer and 1st to Application then to System and see if you
have a Warning or an Error on the Scanner. Can you post back with result
even if Yes or No.

All in ones usually have a printer driver, and scanner software separately. Ergo, you
might be able to print, but NOT scan. The fact that there isn't a Windows XP driver at
the HP site, for either printer or scanner software, leads me to believe that your all in
one peripheral is now orphaned as a scanner as far as Windows XP SP2 is concerned. I am
unaware of specific scanner packages, especially for a parallel port scanner, that are
included with the Windows XP OS. If it's a parallel port scanner, it must be older than
my first Windows 98 SE USB scanner, which was orphaned by Windows XP. So, I wouldn't
think that there would be good odds that there are scanner drivers and software to make
the scanner part of your parallel port all in one function with Windows XP SP2.
