Restore Failure

My primary hard drive crashed yesterday (a complete
hardware failures), so I rebuilt my xp system overnight.
I'm now trying to restor my data, but when I open the
backup file, which is on a second hard drive, the backup
utility tells me: "The backup contains unrecongnized data
and cannot be used." These files opened fine before I had
to rebuild.

Any ideas on how to get this thing to read my backup files?
