Purchased a computer from a small company in FL which
went out of business. It had XP Pro loaded on by the
supplier of the computer. It was a non-key program which
is giving me problems downloading window's updates. My
question is:can I purchase an XP Pro udate and load it
over the existing XP Pro? I really like the XP Pro
program and wish to continue with that version of windows.

Thanks

Hi,

Yes, you can purchase the full version and do a repair install to legitimize
the installation. Just use the new Product Key and follow the steps here:

Sounds like a reason they went out of business because they may have not
been installing legal copies. If it is a clone type machine then you should
have no problems especially if you reformat your hard drive. Not really
sure if could install an upgrade if you format the hard drive first. If you
have a copy of Win98 laying around you could install the minimun and upgrade
from there. Please anyone feel free to yell at me or correct me if I am not
correct.
