View Full Version : Registration Change Problem Under Windows XP Pro SP2

I built a computer intended to be a gift for a person who isn't able to use
it now, so I elected to give it to a relative. However, I had already
installed & registered WinXP Pro to the person who can't use it. So, I
really need to change the name that appears on the General tab of the System
Information dialogue that pops up when the user opens My Computer and clicks
on View System Information.
I thought that clicking on Start, then Run, then typing regwiz /r would
effect that change.
However, I carried out those steps to completion and regwiz seemed to make
the change.
However when I checked the System Information dialogue after running regwiz,
the same name that was there before I ran regwiz still appears on the
General tab.
How can I change that, hopefully without having to reinstall Windows?

To change the Registered Name and Company
Start>Run and type
Regedit
Navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion
To change Registered Name:
Double-click RegisteredOwner (REG_SZ) in the right-hand pane and change the
value.
To change Registered Company:
Double-click RegisteredOrganization (REG_SW) in the right-hand pane and
change the value.
