Hi

I am planning to roll out service pack 2 via a group policy. I wondered
does service pack 2 install straight on a machine that does not have sp1
applied to it or do you have to install sp1 before you can install service
pack 2.

Thanks

Nick

I understand that SP2 includes everything that came before it.

You don't need service pack 1 to uninstall SP2

Hi, Nick.

Service Packs are cumulative, so SP2 includes SP1 and other fixes up to the
date of SP2. You should visit Windows Update regularly to get any critical
updates after SP2. (Yes, there have been several since SP2 was released in
August 2004.)

SP2 incorporates all the SP1 updates as well, so you do not need SP1 at
all.

SP1 is included within SP2. It is not necessary to install
both--just SP2.

I loaded XP-home 2002 upgrade on a laptop and turned on auto updates and MS
sent 14 updates all at once then an hour or so later it sent the first part
of SP2 then followed with a 2nd part later on ... over the first day.
Then it further updated after SP2 I think about 18 updates all at once.
Then I turned off autoupdate.
Everything Worked ! pretty much.
