View Full Version : Temp. Files Slowing Performance?

Although I run defrag and scan disk on a regular basis I do wonder if the
numerous temp. files that XP Pro creates can slow down the performance of my
computer.
If that is the case how can I determine which of these files can be removed
without causing any harm?
Thanks,
Dbm

Start, run, cleanmgr.exe
cleanmgr.exe deletes temporary files
Chkdsk (what you are calling scandisk) checks and optionally fixes errors
Defrag reorders the location of the files

good advice
suggestions
always run in order 1/chkdsk and then 2/defrag
you can also consider these as 'avail utils in win xp'
3/
remove temp files-ie
go start/control panel/network and internet connections/
internet options/general tab/
go - temporary internet files - section/
go - delete files/
go - delete cookies/
and take it fr there

Temp files as a general rule will not usually slow down performance -
especially if the files aren't being used/accessed. They can, however, take
up space on your drive.

Thanks to all for the suggestions.
While I will follow your suggestions I am beginning to suspect that
Microsoft update that others are writing about as the possible culprit.
I downloaded this update and since then things have been running very
slowly.
