After spending a number of hours troubleshooting, I have
discovered that some (or one) of the recent Windows XP
updates has a conflict with my Norton Firewall on my
laptop, causing my Internet access to slow to a crawl. I
had been on vacation and some auto-updates occurred, then
I gave it the full updates after I returned, thats when
the trouble began. Yes, I already deleted the dreaded
Q811493 (then rebooted) and that had no effect. I have
had this system set up as it is for 6+ months and it has
worked fine until the updates. The only way to get my
internet speed to where it belongs (Comcast Cable hookup)
is to disable my firewall and everything runs great.
Obviously, I don't want to run like this, so anyone have
any suggestions or must I just wait for a Microsoft
Patch? By the way, I have a desktop hooked into the same
Linksys Router and it works great, even with Q811493
installed and Norton Firewall also. Go figure...
