I have two computers, both are using xp pro, one is using sp1 and one is using sp2. I just formated the one with Sp2 and downloaded all the windows updates, but now I can't seem to get the network working, something I never had a problem before the format, where I was running Sp1. There's no problem connecting to internet from either computer, and I also have a webserver on the Sp2 computer, which is perfectly accecible from both local and external IPs, so the only piece of the puzzle that doesn't work is the sp1 <-> sp2 file sharing, i made sure they are both in the same workgroup but they can't see eachother

Check and see if the Windows Firewall is on (SP box). Service Pack 2
automatically enables the Windows Firewall. If you are not running a
third-party firewall, go to the Windows Firewall applet in Control
Panel and enable File & Printer Sharing on the Exceptions tab. If you
are using a third-party firewall (and have properly configured it to
allow your lan traffic as Trusted), then turn the Windows Firewall off.
You don't want two firewalls running, and a third-party program will be
better than the WF. All firewalls must be properly configured to allow
lan traffic as Trusted.

A quick way to get everything working is to run the Network Setup
Wizard.
