I bought some new pre-formatted floppy discs and when I
try to use one i get a message that says disc not
formatted, would you like to format. I try to format the
disc and it says that windows cannot format the disc.
Whats going on?

Do you have the write protection tab on floppy set right.

Does it do it with other disks?

Does the drive read/write/format any other floppy?

I discovered through Ball State University's web page a link to
Computer Helpdesk with a help file by Jim Jones.

He offers three solutions to this problem that seems to be inherent in
WinXP.

The easiest solution is turn off your virus program. That did it for
me.
