Needs a new Microsoft Virtual Machine

When I went to a site it said I needed to download a Java
applet so various things could be displayed. I clicked on
Download and the process graphically showed the result
was successful. However another message then came on
screen which informed me I needed to upgrade my Microsoft
Virtual Machine from the Upgrade page.When I went to that
page there was no indication at all of such a "machine".
Does anyone know what they mean and if so where do i get
this Virtual machine upgrade?
