View Full Version : SP2 and NIS 2005

I posted this question in a Symantec newgroup also, but I am wondering if
this could be an XP issue. Symantec says this should be able to run.
I am running Win XP SP2 and NIS 2005. It has worked well on a daily basis
but I wanted to run it in Safe Mode and got the following message:
Symantec Integrator has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are
sorry for the inconvenience.
Is there something I need to configure in either XP or NIS in order to do a
scan in
Safe Mode?
Thanks for your help.

Integrator, as all of Symantecs "Control shells, will only
run in Hires monitor mode. A safe mode runs in lowres, or
low color depth, which normally will not let the
applications in NIS/NAV run (particularly the shells).

In Romans 1 there are qualities of Unregenerate man listed
which describe him in the last days.
Is your quality found on this list??

Hmm.. Thanks. That's a really lousy feature in my opinion. Is there a
logical reason for it? I ended up running a scan in safe mode at the Trend
Micro site, but I sure would have liked to use my own stuff!

I had big problems with NIS 2004 on the computer my wife uses. Every
time an NAV scan would start in Normal Mode, the computer would freeze
totally -- no keyboard reaction at all. The only solution was to turn
off manually and then restart. I could scan in Safe Mode though. I
went through a lot of exercises recommended by Norton Support, and all
that did was waste a lot of my time.
When the subscription expired, I uninstalled NIS 2004 completely, and
then installed NIS 2005. Unfortunately, the same freeze problem
occurred in Normal Mode. The computer also froze when I tried a scan
from the Norton Internet site. And now, in Safe Mode I got the same
System Integrator message which you are getting. What a bummer.
I have since uninstalled NIS 2005 on her computer, and installed Zone
Alarm Security Suite and it has scanned the computer with no problems
and no viruses found. I also did an AV scan from the McAfee Internet
site with no problems and no viruses found. I have also used SpyBot and
AdAware and found no problems.
So, I don't have an answer to your question. I would return the NIS
2005 for a refund, but it came bundled with Norton Ghost and it would
cost me just as much to get Norton Ghost alone. I will try installing
NIS 2005 on another computer on which the security subscription is about
to expire.

You can run Norton Antivirus 2005 Scans in safe mode. but not the
Integrator. Use your Start Menu. I know I can.

I tried to do that...used the start menu and selected Antivirus. Is there
another way?

That is how I do it. There is usually a message saying something like "You
can only perform scans in safe mode". Have you looked at Symantec Support?
Or your manual?
