View Full Version : System hangs when enable UDMA mode

Please let me know if I've posted to the wrong group
since I rarely (in fact, the first time) to use it.

My Windows XP has been (fairly) okay and without major
problems, until today when it hanged because of no
particular reason. I tried rebooting it and it freezed
when loading the startup screen, tried many times and
couldn't get into safe mode. Finally it ran again when I
disable UDMA mode in BIOS, worked now in both safe and
normal mode.

However, when I tried to enable UDMA mode again in
System/Hardware/Device Manager, it freezed immediately
right after I clicked the Apply button. It is a lot
slower in PIO mode in comparison.

Could anyone suggest a solution to me? I am using VIA686B
chipset motherboard (Duron 800MHz), TNT2 video card with
generic Microsoft driver (I mention it because it might
be the problem too). Thinking of DMA/IRQ stuff...

Please advice. Thanks a lot.

Great if you could send me a copy to
since I don't know if I can get to this newsgroup again.
Cheers!
