Windows XP SP2
Adaptec ATA 1200A RAID controller (using latest HPT3xx drivers)

I have been having a few different intermittent problems, and now one is
persistent and the system will not boot, either in regular mode or safe mode,
or using last known good configuration. One problem had to do with the
HPT3xx driver, which I updated. The second involved the system recovering a
registry file upon successful boot. The third has to do with the system
hanging at a black screen after the Windows XP logo screen. This is the
current persistent problem. In safe mode, the systme loads drivers through
agp440.sys and then hangs. I tried the solution regarding agp440.sys
detailed in KB article 324764 with no success - the same problem persists. I
have enabled bot logging and viewed the ntbtlog.txt file. The file shows
several drivers loading including agp440.sys, and other drivers after
agp440.sys load. The log also shows a series of drivers that were not
loaded, and repeats the same list repeatedly, as if the boot process is stuck
in an infinite loop trying to load drivers, or trying not to load drivers.
Any ideas as to determining if this is a driver issue, adn if so determining
which driver is the culprit. Or if this could be a registry corruption
issue, and how to repair. i would prefer not to do a Windows XP repair
installation. Thanks for any help.
