View Full Version : Start Menu Programs not showing

If I go to the Start button, All programs, nothing shows up. It is empty.
If I boot into safe mode, and go to the programs, it says "empty".

Now if I go to the start menu using windows explorer, docs and settings,
etc, it shows all my programs in there under the start menu. It just won't
display when clicking on the start button and going to it.

I've run a spyware and virus scan and found nothing.

Any thoughts???

Start Menu 'All Programs' is empty or nothing happens when you click the
menu
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/AllPrograms.htm

http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

154. Right hand side
Remove "All Programs" from Start Menu - Undo
Click on Undo

If XP Pro...

Group Policy editor (Gpedit.msc) under the following location..
User Configuration \ Administrative Templates \ Start Menu and Taskbar

Note: Except when noted, all of these registry settings are under the
following registry key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Policies\Explore
r

The registry entries are DWORD values. A value of 1 is enabled, and a value
of 0 is disabled.

Policy: Remove common program groups from Start Menu
Description: Removes items in the All Users profile from the More Programs
list on the Start menu.
Registry Value: "NoCommonGroups"

By default, the Programs menu contains items from the All Users profile and
items from the user's profile. If you enable this setting, only items in the
user's profile appear in the Programs menu.

Yes this fixed the problem. I first tried the registry edit from
kellys-corner-xp.com and that did not work. Then I tried the regedit from
windowsxp.mvps.org and that fixed the problem. The registry edit from there
was called shellfolders.reg

Thanks again!
