I have a client who everytime she deletes a picture or a file it creates
another same picture or file in the same directory in xp home with sp2.

It creates the exact duplicate in the same folder that she deleted the file.

She had 700 pictures that she was trying to go through and delete. She
deleted 200 and found after she deleted it she had 700 pictures again- the
same ones she deleted.

How do you fix this?

It sounds like disk corruption or a virus.

Boot to the XP setup CD, and press 'r' for recovery console, run the command : CHKDSK /R

Download the free Anti-Virus tool (AVG) at this address: http://grisoft.com/us/us_dwnl_free.php
