Hi,
My pc MCE 2005 won't go past the welcome screen anymore, it doesn't even get
to say welcome, it just stops right before "welcome" appears.
I can move the mouse around and pressing ctl-alt-del won't help
Tried safe mode in every shape and color with the same results
Last know good configuration won't work either.

Last thing I did was momentarilly plug (extra HD's) 1 SATA drive and 1 IDE
drive to transfer information from 1 to the other). I then shut the PC down
and removed the drives. But then when I tried to use the computer again, it
wouldn't log in.
I cannot afford to loose any data or have to re-install programs and settings.
PLEASE HELP!!!

If the drive won't repair as a system drive, to save the data you would have to install it as a slave drive in some other system,
and 'take ownership' of the data to copy it.

Hi,
I now know the exact cause of the problem
I have 4 HDs: C, D ,E, F where C is the OS
I then plugged 2 extra HDs: I, and J where J was a new Maxtor

I booted the PC and installed the maxblast 4 software provided by Maxtor and
follow instructions to install the new drive (J)

I was given a choice to set the new drive as extra space or as a "boot drive"
I choose "boot drive" by mistake!
Maxblast started copying files from my Boot drive C to the new drive J but I
cancelled the process.
I started maxblast again and this time I chose to set the drive as extra
space which finished succesfully!
I unplugged both "extra drives" after transferring some information through
drag and drop and proceeded to shut down.

At restart, windows won't go past the welcome screen. I then decided to do a
repair installation from a bootable CD, and that's when I noticed that my
original boot drive C, was changed to "J".
I guess the Maxblast software did this when by mistake I chose to set the
new drive J as the boot drive.

Any ideas!
